Probably because the person having the problem is not running enough colors, must be running in 16-bit.

thanks LightStar I will pass this on to alwaysok ... hope this is their problem

2500x2000  <---not sure what that's supposed to be, but the largest widescreen size should be 2560x1600.

that is the size I start with when making a wallpaper Note some are even BIGGER... I include it so that anyone how knows how to or have a program can sizes it down as they see fit

Perhaps, but it's not the right aspect ratio. 2560x1600 can be used for any resolution that's 16:10, ie 1920x1200, 1680x1050, etc without a distorition or loss of quality.

Jafo that is not helping

Issue will be [these days] with NATIVE resolution size for the [typical] LCD screens used.

Any resolution NOT 'native' will fudge the pixels.

Any resolution not the correct proportion/format...eg 16/9 or 16/10 or 4/3 etc set to 'stretch' will fudge AND distort the image.

The ONLY 'best practice' is to resize/crop a wall image to MATCH your resolution...and the ONLY resolution you should use on an LCD is its NATIVE resolution.

Does THAT help.....? ....

Bebi Bulma,  {Jafo

now your talking a foreign language lol  ...}

so if I got this right when i made Lucky strike and started with 2500 x 2000 for my canvas..

When I was done with it I siezed it down to 1920 x 1080 saved it then hit ctrl + alt + Z to undo and brought it back to 2500 x 2000 then did the next size and so on was this the wrong way at gotting the siezs I needed?

side note the image Resolution is 300 mode is 16 bit/ channel  I tryed 32bit but it a.k.a Photoshop would not let me save it as an .jpg

on Feb 25, 2010

I think what Bebi was saying is if you start with 2560x1600 you can just resize them down to wide screen sizes. The size you start with 2500x2000 you can't do that without either distortion or cropping things out.

Yes, with a canvas that is 2560x1600, you can go to (in photoshop) Image > image size > make sure Constrain Proportions is checked and then enter in the new size (like 1920) and it will automatically add the proper height for that aspect ratio, without distorting the image. By default I left my Resolution settings to 72dpi.

Now this is for 16:10, I'm not sure about 16:9, I think the highest you'll get for that is 1920x1080 (1080 HD res) anyway. But if you are trying to make an image that has a different aspect ratio from the original image (16:10 into 16:9), it's best to resize the image to the correct width, then make a trans image the right size to crop it, not just force a resize. (Example: 1920x1200 canvas, want 1920x1080, so you make a trans image of that size with a stroke outline, then crop it from the original. That's how I've done it.)

Bebi Bulma thanks for the info... If I am getting this I should start with 2560x1600 then sizes the Wallpaper down to the other sizes..

EX. so if I start with 2500x1600 then size it down to 1920x1080 keeping Constrain Proportions is checked Question after doing and saving do I then hit ctrl+alt+z or do I just keep sizing it down from 1920x1080 to get the others.. I know what I know about Photoshop could fit on a pen head.... but if I don't ask questions that may seem dumb to the pros I can't do a GREAT JOB....

After what DaveBax said about the distortion I was like how can this be BUT i went back and looked at the Lucky Strike WP's and I then seen

how the head of the match was distored. and that is not what I want to upload so I will go back and redo them and omit the 2500x2000 all together as I did not keep Constrain Proportions

I just did a check but I am not sure if it will work I just made a new blank canvas of 2500x2000 then sized it down to 1920x1536 that is with the Constrain Proportions i was going for 1920x1080 ... Q is should I just trash Lucky Strike and start over with 2500x1600 or will resizing them from what I have work..... I know a lot of dumb Questions, but if I don't ask I can't learn the right way .... thanks for any info and the help so far

P.s.

as to Resolution is 300 mode is 16 bit/ channel

I thought if you start with a higher Resolution and a high bit as to 32 the image is clearer better

If you could please tell me more about this info... and why PS will not let me save JPG with 32bit oh and about HD wallpapers how do I know what to start with as to the Resolution and bit.... thanks for your help and patients

>>> It's blurry on my desktop.<<<

in Vista and Windows 7 it also can be HOW you apply the wallpaper. For some reason right-clicking on the file and choosing "set as desktop background" seems to give you a "blurry" version of the original file. Tell her to apply wallpaper thru Windowblinds config or the "Personalize" dialog.

thanks Lantec will pass this info on

Yes, that's for 16:10 though, 1920x1080 is a different animal (16:9). I'd start with the 2560, then make 1920x1200, then from there to 1680x1050, etc. But for the 1920x1080, work from a 1920x1200 canvas and then crop out the 1080 from that, centering on which elements you want to keep and which from the top/bottom you can lose.

And about the resolution settings, just leave them as whatever PS has for default (72 dpi, RGB color, 8 bits).
