I don't grt how you can have both hard drives SATA and EIDE
That is a rather small amount of RAM to be running Vista.I have Home Basic w/1.5Gb RAM and consider it an absolute minimum.I typically run at 38-45% memory usage but have seen it go as high as 75% depending on what I'm running.I'm not sure if it makes any difference but I do have a somewhat lame video card (nVidia6150SE) so your milage may vary.
Wizard1956,
you do know, you only have 256MB of RAM more than myself. But yaw, vista LOVES RAM!!!!
I had Vista Ultimate installed at one time I liked it and didn’t like it
The main thing(s) I did not (Do Not) like about Vista is on a fresh install Task Manager has 75 running Processes and XP only about 24 and the fact Vista tells me you do not have Permission to do that but I am the Administrator
BUT YES I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE more RAM but can only go up 1.5GB I have 3 slots and each can only take 512MB don't know why I could not put in 1GB in each Slot but HP says that my 2001 HP pavilion xt948 can only have 512MB in each slot.
what I really need is a NEW computer because all the new games out my PCU (1.6 GHz) can't handle, and that to Vista wants MORE
Oh and my Video card is not that grate it is an ATI Radeon 9550 x1050 series 256MB but never had any problems with playing any games
When new my HP came with only 512Mb,so they must have thought that was sufficient. I added 1Gb as soon as I got it home.My 103Gb of HDD space is half filled however so I may soon need more storage as well.(it's all WC's fault,I wasn't warned the site was habit-forming)
I also had 78 running, but narrowed them down to 61 which seemed to help speed things up .
some mother boards have both types of interface, like mine does i have both SATA and IDE connections.
i have 2 SATA drives and 2 IDE drives plus 2 DVD RAM drives.
call it having the best of both worlds
I hear you there..
My HP only came with 128MB of RAM and an on board 64MB of Graphices and NO installation CD but I made HP give me One
ok it was 7 CD's (yes Seven) but then again I got XP when it came out (and it was my first Computer) and MS said it was so good that you'll never have to Reinstall but just in case XP was put on a Partion but when I got my First HD thats when Told HP they had to Give me one but I had to pay $20.00 for Shipping.
Ya But I just have the EIDE I am useing an adopter for the SATA one, it's a slim one my brother got for me. plugs right on the back of the SATS HD and just clears to close the HD's holder..
Vista only loves RAM only becuase it utilizes unused, once anoth app require more RAM Vista releases it, the RAM is used for the Aero effect which includes the flip3d. transparency etc. etc.
why not, you can easily use both but would you really use IDE and your primary? IDE is sooo slow compared to SATA
It didn't for me but then again I have a 2001 HP xt948 1600Mzh Intel Pentium 4 CPU and 1.25GB RAM
and WAY to much stuff in Task Manager on a clean install I had 74 or 75 Processes running
XP only has like 19 but no more than 25.
The other BIG one I hate was "You do not have Administer rights (What I Owen this Computer)
but when I get my 400GB HD back I will install Vista Ultimate again.
Only because it is the wave of the future And MicroSoft gave it to me FREE Oh, and my
Score is LOW it's like 2.6 or 3.1 not sure
It's the CPU and my Graphic Card and RAM that messes with the Score
(So it's my Computer)
Hints my user name DisturbedComputer well, and it's an HP lol...
try disableing desktop themes in the services to get rid of the aero, flip3d, and what not and you will get a boost in available ram
cool
but i like the aero
I can live witout the flip3D
